The new shoes look more modern than the older wood ones, but do not make the mistake I did: these shoes are all man-made except for the leather strap. The footbed is plastic, the heel bed is some weird spongy foam, and although it is lightweight, it looks like it won't hold up past one summer's use. I have no idea why these shoes are priced the way they are for what amounts to a plastic shoe. You could buy something like this at Target for half the price. Or just go with the original.

My mom had the coolest Dr. Scholl's in the '80s. I was looking for a pair with the same vintage feel, and have other wooden soled shoes that I love. I was so disappointed when these arrived today. I didn't realize the soles have (inexplicably) been replaced with plastic and rubber. Instead of chic and timeless, they have a dated, orthopedic look. Worse, they feel flimsy and cheap. The suede strap is totally bizarre with the plastic soles. I really can't return them fast enough.

I had the "original" original sandal and love them, so I thought that I would give these a try. super happy that I did! they hold their shape but have a padded heel, giving you an extra bounce :) I have plantars faciitis and these are pretty much the only sandals that will give me the support I need! the band seems a little tighter than the "original" but I think that I need to break them in a little longer!
