I took one look at this dress on the site, decided on a size 8, put it on the moment it arrived, and felt as if I had just walked out of a dressmaker's shop. I am 5'9" and slender, with narrow hips. Sometimes a fuller skirt sits awkwardly around my upper thighs, not knowing whether it wants to flow, flare, or . . . just sit. Whatever this skirt has decided to do, it's flattering to my body type! I am a little short-waisted; the dress's waist hits perfectly. The shaped, standing neckline is a nice touch, and the cap sleeves call attention away from the fact that my triceps could use a little toning. The turquoise color is very clear and true. I have gray/green eyes, and the dress makes them stand out in a lovely way.Let me tell you about the fabric. I am not fond of center front seams on dresses or skirts made of material with an obvious print. The dress has a center front seam. This material, however, is deliberately printed in an irregular pattern of what look like various sizes of little white stones laid in a turquoise base. It would be almost impossible to lay out the fabric to "match" at the seams; and it would be almost impossible to lay out the fabric "incorrectly," too. So, the center seam is not a concern!The hand of the fabric is crisp without being stiff, and is complemented by the raised texture of the weave. The fabric is rather thick, but not overpowering. The dress is fully lined.Here are the reasons I did not give the dress 5 stars:The little skinny white belt that comes with the dress is just the right size, color, and weight, but it is plastic, and looks cheap.The hem, like so many these days, is finished with an overcast serge stitch. Oh, for some nice rayon hem tape to cover what gives the impression of a raw hem! Yes, I can apply hem tape myself; but for the price of the dress, I would have preferred a finished hem and a nicer belt.Still, this is a very pretty dress, and I can't wait to wear it!
