After reading reviews for lots of boots on the site and a few other shoe places, I bought the Merrel Captiva's in espresso, and I am in love with them.FIT OF SHOE: They are a true fit, and for people with wider feet they are awesome! I am size 7.5 or 8 usually, and I bought a size 7.5. There is a little bit of room in front of my toes like there should be for a good shoes, and even better I can actually move my toes around, and there is space for my wide foot on all sides (but it still curves in at the toes and looks good, as opposed to being like a duck foot!).FIT OF LEG: I have big cyclist's calves, and that can be a real problem for finding boots, which is part of the reason I chose these - they are marketed as a "wide calf boot". They have full-length zippers and a small elasticized area near the top (less than 1" across) that allow me to get them on. The first few wears it was a struggle, but I had anticipated that. I wore them around the house for two days straight to loosen them up, and now I get them on and off without spending forever yanking on the zipper. I even manage skinny jeans, which I didn't think would be an option. What I **REALLY** like though, is that because my calves are big due to huge-ass muscles, there is no proportion when it comes to my calves and ankles. Usually if a boot fits my calf, it is super-baggy around the ankle and looks terribly clunky, and moves around my foot like a rain boot. The Merrells taper in significantly, so that they are fitted - which makes them look great, and means that the entire boot moves with my feet.COMFORT: I love knee-highs, wear them all seasons, wear them on light hikes, in the city, shopping, clubbing, everywhere. I am also a firm believer in comfortable shoes, and it's a pet peeve of mine that so often women's shoes are designed solely with looks and no efforts made to comfort, completely ignoring the fact that Yes, shoes can be BOTH beautiful and comfortable. These boots are both. I can wear them all day on multiple surfaces and not have sore feet. The waterproof leather breathes enough that it doesn't get hot and sweaty inside. The sole of the boot is AMAZINGLY comfortable... It has a gel insert. The grip is great, so I'm not slipping around on rainy or icy surfaces when wearing them. All in all, given the great quality workmanship and comfort of these boots, I plan to have them for many years (I intend to resole them when I wear them out).

I wear an 8 or 8.5 shoe/boot, but the 8's were plenty roomy, and the ample toe height and room was much appreciated, as was the built in arch support. I wanted a waterproof boot to wear on our December trip to Europe, beginning with three days in a very wet Venice. These boots were a lifesaver; I walked and walked for three days and did NOT have aching feet by the end of the day as I would have had with any other shoe or boot I own. And the big bonus is that these boots have some style to them; they aren't like rubber boots, and don't particularly look like waterproof boots. I wore them with my slim ankle jeans tucked inside them. At first they were very snug to get on over my high instep and heel, but the boot loosened up after a week or so, so persevere. They are perfect!

I ordered 8.5 as that's size I wear. But it was too large. Not type of a large when you say "hey I can wear thick socks and it'll be alright." So I'd suggest to order a 1/2 size smaller. Otherwise, these boots look and feel great. The leather looks beautiful (Espresso)... but the sole is kind of plastic-y.
