The waist is defined by a broad swath of elasticized smocking followed by three gloriously full and gathered tiers of fabric for the skirt. Done up in a crinkle rayon that has a subtle wrinkle-resistant texture, a great drape and flow and a soft feel next to the skin. The rich and luscious color options are designed to flatter all skin tones. I purchased this dress for my wedding, a steampunk/renaissance theme. It is even more beautiful in person than in the picture, I must say.The fabric is quite thin, to the point that you can see my nude bra through it. It'll be evening at my wedding, so that's not much of a big deal, but for anyone planning to wear it on its own in daylight, keep that in mind. It would also make a perfect chemise for those who do ren faires, as I do, because it is so light weight and breathable, making it great for hot weather. This size is perfect for me. I am about a size 20 on bottom, 37 inch waist, and 38I (47 inch) chest. The waist has enough give to fit probably five inches larger than mine, and the bodice would probably fit about three or four inches larger comfortably, but beyond that, your movement would be restricted, and it would be very difficult to put on, as the seams joining the bodice to the waistline don't have much give. Please keep in mind that it's thin, so the tighter it fits, the more shows through. The arms are snug, too, so factor that into your decision as well. I would say, if you're more than a size larger than me, go up to the next size in this dress (they have a version that's 2X 3X 4X) for comfort.I have to say, the model must be very short, as the dress looks an inch or two past floor length on her. I am 5'4", and this hits me right at the ankle. It will be perfect with the cowboy boots I'll be wearing with it (steam punk theme!), or as a chemise under my garb at faire. The neckline works equally well on or off the shoulders. On the shoulders, you get that beautiful square neck, very flattering to all sizes. Off the shoulders, it's dazzling as well. It works great for whatever look you're going for - shy maiden to saucy wench. There is a tie at the neck, but it is not a drawstring - the neck is on elastic, with ties attached at the keyhole. I generally prefer no elastic, but it's not very binding, so it's not as bad as I expected. There is also a tie at the back of the waist, which can cinch the back of the waist smaller if needed, it's a drawstring attached to the sides. When wearing as garb, this looks beautiful on its own, or with a waist cincher, corset, skirts, hip scarf, etc., added on top. The thin fabric makes it excellent for warm days, and on cold faire days, all I have to do is pile on the skirts and add a cloak.I would also like to add that this is safe to put through the washer on delicate. I neglected to mention to my husband that it should be hung up to dry instead of going through the dryer, and the skirt shrank from right around my ankles, where it was for the wedding, to about 4 inches below the knee. I actually like that length better, as I am part of a gypsy group at faire, however if you do not want yours shortening up, make sure to hang dry. It did not shrink narrower at all, even after being washed in hot water.

If you're looking for a great dress for the base of your costume, this is perfect. Because it's soooo thin, only wear it by itself if you're OK showing off EVERYTHING underneath! But when layered with other items (like a corset and sash as I'm doing for my pirate wench costume), it's a great job.The neckline elastic has enough pull that you can wear this dress as a wide-scoop neck without the fabric bunching unnaturally, though it does look a little better worn off-the-shoulder. I agree with the other reviewer about length, at a little over 5'8", this comes down to just above my ankles instead of the nearly-floor-length as pictured. However, it is long enough to cover most slip and petticoat options.

I fit in the dress well, but It is snug around the belly and arms. I am wearing this dress on my wedding day and I do look great in it.
